Spirit of Burgas 2012
Summer has once again come to our doorstep and of course, as the long lasting tradition ordains, it brings along various music festivals. Each year hundreds of thousands of people become a part of these special events, created with the main idea of celebrating the grandeur of music in the outdoors, while listening to some of the very best bands and artists from all around the world. Recently a new festival has been added to the lines and its name is Spirit of Burgas.
The event was planned to start off in 2009, however on 15-17 August 2008, with a little push from MTV, The Spirit of Burgas was launched. Although it was organized only in several weeks time, the festival became an absolute success. It even got nominated for “Best European Festival” on the 2008 UK Festival Awards. That’s no wonder, since it’s located on the Black Sea coast, is in the hands of the best Bulgarian and foreign sponsors and in its first year was able to attract names such as The Sisters of Mercy, Cradle of Filth and Kosheen. Alongside the foreign musicians, the event included top class Bulgarian performers Upsurt and Gravity Co.
In just several years Spirit of Burgas has become one of the best festivals worldwide. It’s been placed in many top lists. It even was named by “The Times” as one of the top 20 festival destinations. The nominations continued, when in 2009 it was included in the category “Best Overseas Festival”, again by the UK Festival Awards. Through the years 2009-2011 fantastic musicians have taken part in the line-ups: Faith No more, The Prodigy, Moby, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Skunk Anansie, Deftones and the list goes on and on. For those who can’t attend, but want to catch some of the spirit, each year the festival can be seen on MTV Europe, though it’s broadcasted only to 16 different countries, sorry folks.
In 2012 the Spirit of Burgas will be held on 3-5 August. The line-up has never been better: Korn, The Prodigy, Busta Rhymes, Sum 41, Armin van Buuren, Mark Knight and 90+ more acts. Of course, some of the very best Bulgarian bands are also included: Wickeda, Siluet, Ostava, Django Ze, Upsurt, Control, Ruth Koleva and others. Although the tragic terrorist attack on 18th of July at the Sarafovo Airport in Burgas, none of the acts have cancelled their performances.
The weather forecast says sunny as it gets, the stages are being prepared and the bands are on their way to the absolute best Bulgarian music festival Spirit of Burgas 2012. So what are you waiting for? Tickets are still on sale, in case you’ve missed out, so get yours and get going!
